Nunhead cemetery
I went to Nunhead cemetery over the long weekend with Mo and Sheila. Not the most exciting of day-trips, I hear you say....The cemetery is the one of London's famous "Ring" cemeteries - established by the Victorians to cope with the lack of burial space within London. There are 7 cemeteries - originally on the outskirts of London and now within the suburbs. The most famous is Highgate - where Karl Marx is buried.
Most of them are urban jungles - very overgrown. Nunhead is typical - you walk through woodland with crumbling graves and masonry poking through the brambles, nettles and ivy. They are also a haven for flora and fauna. Might go back next week to catch the bluebells - as they were about to erupt...
